Pet Shop Boys, Better Late then Never

This past weekend was the Pet Shop Boy concert here in Atlanta. They played Chastain Park here in Atlanta. Which is an outdoor venue and has a time when the concert must be over or face noise ordnance fines. This really is the first time I have been to Chastain for a concert. So we got there early to make sure we got where we needed to go. The concert was to start at 8 and we got there at 7 PM. One thing you should know is that you can bring in your own food and drink into the venue. So when we entered the ticket taker said we were traveling light. We ate before the concert down the road and were ready to go.
So we got there and just hung out, I got a concert program, which I love those, not sure why but I try to get them for all the concerts I go to. Then Mike and Todd got a first of many beverages (you can tell that from the podcast about the concert). Then we go back and sit down. We notice that our row is filling up when the ones around us aren’t. Luckily the lesbians next to us moved back a row when the concert started.
So, 8 PM comes and goes and nothing, then we notice they start moving boxes on the stage. So, I”m like great they will start in a few. No, not exactly the graphics don’t seem to be lining up right, so they build the boxes to the sky, and its now 8:30 and I think, they can’t do this much more. They had, as we termed him DJ Grinning Idiot come out and play bad music. I was ready to smack him. We now are approaching George Micheal territory. He was about 45 minutes late. Then we pass that time, and I”m getting pissed, wondering if they are going to do a concert, I was to the point they were going to come out and say “Sorry no concert” but they didn’t, they finally took the stage at 9:15. Which kinda pissed me off since they usually start on time.
As soon as they took the stage, I was at ease. They kicked it off with HeartBeat, as you can see on the top picture. Then
they moved in to some new stuff and some great older material. If you listen to Todd they were too old heavy. But the one thing I loved hearing them sing was Se a vida e from Billngual. I don’t think I have heard that in concert before. I have heard Red Letter Day before but nothing else. They also would start off singing one song and go into another. Another surprise was the cover of Cold Plays Viva la Vida. It was really good. Niel Dressed up at a King.
I have three favorite things they had were the dancing buildings. They had the four dancers dress up as buildings in NYC. They were the Citibank Building, Crystler building and maybe Empire State Building and forget the other. And they danced. I really wanted them to see dance to NYC Boy, but they didn’t it was the 2 Divided by Zero and We Should Live together. Then they had box people. As you can see by the other pic. It was really cool, they danced and it was awesome. The last thing they did was in Jelousy, they had two dancers really go at it. It was a staged dance fight. At the end they started throwing the boxes at each other. They were awesome.
Then the most trippy moment of the nite involved when the boxes started to fly! I was like I haven’t been drinking! But it was amazing what they did with the boxes, they came out through them in a door, then they knocked them down, and constantly rearranging them through out the concert. They never disappoint!
If you have never seen them, go see them. This is my fourth time I have seen them. Every tour since Nightlife. They put on an amazing show and really entertain.
